Retail and Leisure Market Update

Wednesday 24 August 2022

Flude Property Consultants are delighted to share with you the most recent retail and leisure market update prepared by our dedicated retail and leisure agents; Will Thomas, Mary Jackson and Alice Masterman.

The shortage of available retail spaces across the Brighton & Hove continues to be the biggest issue so far this year. What has been coming the market has generally attracted interest and been occupied quickly. Hot spots like North Laine continue to see premiums being paid for lease assignments and restaurant spaces remain high on most interested parties wish lists.

Chichester has had an interesting year from a retail and leisure point of view. Enquiries picked up considerable at the beginning of the year whilst retailers were feeling buoyant with the worst of the pandemic behind us and pent up demand evident. Many existing retailers used this as an opportunity to secure new units either in a better position or similar position with better terms. We have also seen new operators taking advantage of the realistic rents to make their entry into the city.

In Portsmouth and Southsea, food and leisure businesses are the main stream of enquiries with a mix of new start-ups and well-known food retailers looking to open new locations. Local businesses are looking to expand and committing to longer term rental contracts from previous short term leases.
